This fact featured on a BBC documentary last year, Fiona Bruce's - The Real Story, to discuss E.coli antibiotic resistance with regard to meat - chickens in particular - being given high doses of Trimethoprim, which means that anyone eating that chicken would have a good chance of picking up E.coli that was antibiotic resistant even before it encountered the antibiotic in your own body.
